Myocardial infarction or commonly known as “Heart attack” is rapidly increasing and now reaching epidemic proportions. India is seen as diabetes and coronary heart disease capital of India. A heart attack in young Indians is increasingwith a significant risk in both males and females.

Smokers not only develop MI earlier but also they increased two-fold risk factor compared to non-smokers and four-fold increased risk factor of sudden death due to MI. it is also a higher risk for smoking women.

High Cholesterol levels

Changing food habits is the leading factor to increase salt consumption, stress, and a sedentary lifestyle have all contributed to the rise of young hypertension. People with high blood pressure are likely to develop CAD because of high BP and these BP added the artery walls and over time, the extra pressure can damage the arteries. These injured arteries are most likely to become heart attacks by fatty deposits.

Diabetes Mellitus

The rise in the incidence of Diabetes is a major factor in youngsters developing MI. Diabetics with Myocardial infarction develop a large portion of the heart that is affected as compared to non-diabetes, has a higher risk of developing re-infarction.

Diabetes has an increased tendency to form blood clots similar to smokers, has multiple blocks and may also have involvement of blood vessels supplying brain and legs.

Physical inactivity

Physical inactivity actually starts from school as modern day teaching stresses very hardly the importance of physical education. It does not only cause a heart attack but also hypertension, Diabetes, and obesity.
